I used to be absolutely terrified of bugs.
For valid reasons.
🐜 I ended up in the ER at age 6, after being attacked by a colony of red ants
🕷️ A horrific summer camp spider story worthy of its own movie franchise
😳 I’m not much bigger than bugs
Despite my fears, I’ve learned to do the thing that scares me most: get rid of indoor bugs.
I created and used my own form of exposure therapy.
✔️ Playing with these colorful plastic bugs on a regular basis
✔️ Using humor - and a hazmat suit - to relocate the real ones
✔️ Reminding myself that I’ve conquered bigger fears and threats
So now, I’m only mildly stressed or annoyed by creepy crawlies.
And I don’t have to call my mother, a neighbor, or a cute fireman to rescue me.
My story applies to more significant career situations, like:
• Networking
• Public Speaking
• Leadership Roles
